EL Information

EL is short for Electro Luminescent

Phosphor Particles which will give off light through an upper and lower substrate and upper and lower electrodes sandwiching a material when high frequency AC voltage is applied. Electro Luminescent gives little heat, which is called "cold light"
 

Operating Principle of EL

"cold light" is a device for electrical energy convert, the operation voltage range of the light source is AC40V~AC220V( frequency: 50HZ~4000HZ). Rising voltage or frequency can increase the light intensity (when rise the frequency, the colour will change.)

As an AC voltage is applied to the electrodes, the electric field causes the phosphor to rapidly charge and discharge, resulting in the emission of light during each cycle. Since the number of light pulses depends on the magnitude of applied voltage, varying the operating voltage and frequency can generally control the brightness of EL

"cold light" will not produce shadow, glare. In addition to excellent light spread uniformity and neon effect, it suits various conditions, for example, it can be used in narrow space, different shape, temperature, different voltage and vibration condition. It does much better than conventional products.

Principle of EL light output

Between upper and lower electrode is ITO from where the light emit. The lower electrode is called rear electrode made of silver or carbon.

Light emit material (ZNS) will produce light of different colour according to different substances mixed.(pink, pure blue, pure green and white)

EL which involves solid state chemistry, material science, vacuum plating(IONSPATTERING) needs high-tech equipment and test technology as well as manpower support.

The relationship between light intensity and voltage of EL: L=Lo exp (-uo/u)

In low frequency condition, brightness increase as the frequency rise, Duration Ratio has little effect on surface-emitting , that is, in the same frequency, change the Duration Ratio will not affect brightness.

Electrode has h2 effect both on efficiency and life span. Phosphor Particles give off light by upper and lower electrodes sandwiching a material when high frequency AC voltage is applied, so, use monopole pulse voltage will reduce life span which bipolar pulse voltage does not.

The load of EL which posed by the barrier between two electrode approximately equal to the drive current(0.2-0.9nf/cm2 ),it is affected by area, the demanding light intensity and the proportion of light emitting material, the larger area is, the bigger load will be and the h2er current strength.

The brightness has a h2 relationship with power supply, in order to keep the brightness, the polarity of pulse voltage must be shift continuously. When the voltage applied in the two polar, it will form a electric field in the light-emitting layer. The electron which force by the electric field move reverse direction at accelerated speed, when the force of electric field is h2 enough and there is sufficient electron with speed enough high, the atom of light-emitting material will force the electron to give off light. If the direction of electric field remains, the high speed electron will decrease, which will result in the brightness become lower and lower till goes out. If the electric field shifts alternately, the electron will keep in high speed condition while at the same time give off continuous light. Usually, the peak AC voltage of EL is 30V-250V.

The brightness of EL is not only affected by voltage but also by frequency, so the brightness is in direct ratio to frequency, too marrow a side seal

Will bring some intricate changes upon the life span lr EL. So we suggest. That the side seal showed be of appropriate width.

Humidity has an inverse ratio relation to light intensity and life span

The life span of EL is measured when it comes to half-brightness(usually when used for 3000-12000Ph).The life span of EL is long enough, but improper use will result in shortened life, i.e. keep EL in high voltage ,high frequency and high brightness for too long. There is no need to keep EL in full brightness because it can meet our visual needs in a lower light level. By increasing corresponding voltage and enhanced process can extend the life span.

The life span and light intensity of EL

After a long time of use, the light intensity of EL will decay unlike conventional light source that fail immediately; The essential factors of life span are voltage, frequency, temperature and humidity.
Average: 150cd/m2 , half-life: 2000 hrs lifetime : 8000 hrs @ 50 cd/m2 60R.H.
High: 300cd/m2 , half-life: 2000 hrs lifetime : 8000 hrs @ 100 cd/m2 60R.H.
Weight, thickness and toughness of EL
EL can be bend(radius>3cm),can form into any shape as a paper.
Average weight: 0.1~0.2g/cm2

Side seal


There should at least 0.1cm Side seal around EL. Too narrow a side seal so we suggest that the side seal should be of appropriate width 
 

Colour

 

The colours of EL include: blue, cyan ,blue, white. Besides those basic colour, using colouring mater and colour panel can produce various colours.

Size available

Any order for EL size within 60*90CM (single sheet’s acreage) is acceptable. Other sizes can be made by joining EL sheets together 
 

Power of EL- driver

Lamp house of EL is originated by a affiliated inverter of which voltage and frequency are professionally designed and produced considering the size of the EL sheet flaring area operation surrounding and life span.
1. With EL sheet driver as power supply, we can tailor our design by customer needs, e.g:
use dry battery DC1.5V?3V?6V?9V?12V as power supply as part of the drive design, we can hoist luminescence of the EL sheet.
2. use DC12V?24V of automobile??motorcycle as power supply as part of the drive design, we can hoist luminescence of the EL sheet.
3. use home power supply AC110V~230V, we can hoist luminescence of the EL sheet.

EL performance:
